Who are you? Tell us a little about yourself.

Grant Monahan. I was born and raised in Montauk, NY. I own and operate my family’s food truck, the Ditch Witch with my sister Abby and I travel and shoot photographs for the rest of the year.

How did you first get into photography?

I first got into photography through the backyard skateboarding scene in Charleston, South Carolina. I was blown away by what was happening in peoples’ back yards and wanted to show my friends at home. Then I fell in love.

Film or digital?

Film and digital both have their perks, but there is nothing like shooting film and feeling the mechanisms in the camera working in your hands. Plus, nothing looks like a well executed image shot on film.

When was the last time you used a single use (disposable) camera?

Before 27 Frames, I think the last time I used a disposable camera was when I dressed up as a tourist for Halloween in college. I had one tied around my neck.

What did you decide to shoot with your camera for this project?

I decided to shoot my home town of Montauk, NY because it is my favorite place to shoot. I tried to shoot the people and scenery I know because that is what make this town so special.

Did you have any interesting experiences along the way?

I had a lot of people ask me why I had a disposal! Haha, I am a bit of a control freak so not having much choice shooting was interesting.

What was the biggest challenge (if any) you had with the project?

My biggest challenge was not shooting all 27 frames at once. I kept telling myself to stop shooting and save it.

What was your favorite image from the roll?

My favorite image is of the Great white shark head eating the mannequin outside The Dock.
