180 Days On Tour

As a young surfer, when asked what you wanted to be when you grew up, you probably would have said a “pro surfer.” And as an adult surfer, when asked about what your dream job would be, the answer probably would still involve traveling the world surfing as a pro surfer. What surfer wouldn’t want to get paid to travel the world surfing the best breaks during the best swell periods? What a privilege that would be to even tag along on such a spectacular adventure for half the year.

Well, our friends Shannon Waller and Brent Miller are living that dream – or at least the closest thing to that dream without being one of the 44 best surfers on the planet. When they landed their jobs on the production crew of the WSL last year, I would drill them constantly in between exotic locations and stops on the tour. How many days did you get to surf in Europe? What were the waves like to surf at chopes? What is Kelly like in person? How was the crowd at J-Bay? Is there just a crowd of hot chick tour groupies on the Gold Coast and in Rio?

To all these questions, they would always reply with small tid-bits of pro tour gossip or drama, and of course some stories of epic surf scored on lay days. But mostly these guys are working their asses off every damn day on tour to make sure we all have the best possible live viewing experience on our laptops while at work.

To give you a small glimpse into their world, we stitched together this edit of some of their personal phones and GoPro clips gathered behind the scenes of some insider crew moments while they weren’t working behind the “real cameras” at each event. Enjoy!
