We sent 27 single use cameras out to some of our favorite photographers, they shot stuff with it, then mailed it back to us. We developed the film and are sharing the results with you (and the photographers) now. In this instant, digital age, we want to pay homage to a snapshot photo process we grew up with ourselves — waiting for the film to develop and being surprised by the results. These 27 Frames belong to Scott Soens.

Who are you? Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Scott Soens. Originally from Avalon New Jersey, but have been living In California since 1998. I’m a Photographer and Cinematographer. I live in Ventura with my wife and two boys.

How did you first get into photography?

My mom always had cameras around when I was a kid she lent me hers when I was in high school. Senior year I took a class and loved it.

Film or digital?

I still love shooting film and always will. Digital has its place and I enjoy shooting it, but film has that feeling.

When was the last time you used a single use (disposable) camera?

A wedding a few years ago.

What did you decide to shoot with your camera for this project?

I took it along with me for a month and shot things that interested me.

What was the biggest challenge (if any) you had with the project?

Trying not to X-ray the camera too much going through security.

What was your favorite image from the roll?

My favorite image is the one with the snow flash filled. I’ve been missing out on the snow the past few years. It was nice to see some snow this year. I’ve always liked driving in the snow and thought the flash would be a cool affect on the flakes. I’m happy how it came out.

Matt Titone

A goofy-footed graphic designer who hails from the first state, Delaware. After attending Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL then graduating from SCAD in Savannah, GA with a BFA in Graphic Design and Illustration, Matt moved to NYC and found work as a freelance designer and art director. In 2006 he moved west to Venice, CA where he co-founded ITAL/C Studio and now resides a bit further north in Oxnard.
