Who are you? Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Will Adler, I live in Santa Barbara and I like pizza.

How did you first get into photography?

As a young kid my mom would give me cameras very similar to the one you gave me. That was my first experience. After I graduated high school I got my first camera and was immediately hooked.

Film or digital?

I use both often.

When was the last time you used a single use (disposable) camera?

A very long time ago, years.

What did you decide to shoot with your camera for this project?

I carried the camera around in my bag for a while and took it to a few countries and couldn’t figure out what to shoot with it, then the deadline came up and I still hadn’t taken any photos so at that point I was in Hawaii, so it’s mainly just photos from a week in Hawaii. There are a couple random things from around my apartment in Santa Barbara (I wasn’t sure if the camera was out of frames or not).

Did you have any interesting experiences along the way?

I am actually surprised the roll came out at all. I sent that camera through about 12 or 13 X-ray machines. It was kind of my personal experiment. I never X-ray my film when I go through airports, so maybe now I won’t be as concerned about it. It can be a huge pain trying to get security to hand check film some times.

What was the biggest challenge (if any) you had with the project?

Getting started. Like I said, I carried it around with me hoping something would present itself. I really wanted to shoot the whole roll as a sort of concise series. I had a few moments when I found something that would work well but them I would leave the particular place before I could act on it. 

What was your favorite image from the roll?

It would be a picture of my girlfriend’s feet at the beach. It’s not the most technically perfect shot on the roll but it sums up what was a very nice day of relaxing on an empty beach on Lanai and listing to a little am/fm radio that we decided to bring camping with us.
