A lot of nostalgia just washed over me while watching this video by La Jolla local and big wave charger Derek Dunfee about his hometown break Windansea. Dunfee filmed this montage while writing an article appearing in the May Issue of Surfing Mag titled “Never Never Land”. The article examines the small affluent beach community and shares tales of surfing, violence, drugs and murder. Gnarly locals, friendly locals, soul bros, pro bros, SDSU chicks, Party Beach idiots, surf heros and zeros – another sunny, beautiful day at Windansea.
A New Englander through and through, Drew grew up in Connecticut / New Hampshire and got over educated in Boston. He also lived on a beach in Southern California for some years. Film, photography, music and literature monopolize his time these days. Drew lives in Brooklyn, NY, eats too many cheeseburgers at the Commodore and hopes to carry on simply one day on a big piece of land by the sea without the computer or YouTube.
