“It was the early ‘70s in LA. I was working on my MFA at CalArts and had recently moved back to the U.S. after shooting for the JWT Agency in Copenhagen and Stockholm. It was pure culture shock – to find myself in LA with palm trees, movie stars, and the search for the American dream. Venice Beach was the gritty epicenter for all of this and the Muscle Men epitomized the high-volume race to fame and fortune.” – Peter Karnig on his Muscle Men photo series for the Indoek Venice issue.
