Of Men and Mavericks is a Hollywood film due out this fall about the story of Santa Cruz legend, the late Jay Morarity. The film is directed by Curtis Hanson (“LA Confidential”, “8 Mile”) and stars Jonny Weston, Gerard Butler and Elisabeth Shue with the big wave surfing being done by Greg Long and crew. It appears that the producers have taken great care to authentically capture the story and sport by including those most knowledgeable, but irregardless “a filmmaker who wishes to get a surf spot right by its locals has his work cut out for him.” Check out the following NY Times piece by Abby Aguirre with on set photographs by Thomas Campbell.
