Skatewallahs

‘SkateWallahs’ is a project by our bud, Robert Marohn, that documents a recent skate adventure across the south of India. Alongside his brother, Ryan, the two traveled from Bangalore to Hyderabad with the HolyStoked Collective on their annual ‘Holy Detour’. The video and zine Robert made for this project aims to capture the couple days spent on the tour as well as a larger picture of skateboarding in India. ‘SkateWallahs’ roughly translates to those who hail from skateboarding (Wallah being a suffix that indicates an occupation), which stems from a nickname given to some BMX riders on the tour: cyclewallahs. After the tour, the brothers headed to Kovalam where they linked up with the Kovalam Skate Club for beach-side sessions with some of the raddest kids around. With donations and funds from a non-profit the two brothers are starting, they were able to bring a ton of skateboards and gear to some of the kids in Kovalam at the end of the trip.
