Stab – Nike Downsize Involvement In Surfing

This just in: As of December 31 this year, Stab has learned that Nike’s big-name surf athletes will peel off Nike logos and apply Hurley stickers. The news came unofficially today, when head-to-toe Nike team riders were in Hawaii, that the company will be partially retracting and will now remain in surfing only as a footwear sponsor. This is a disappointment to us, just seeing that iconic swoosh on pro surfers’ boards and wetsuits represented a paradigm shift in how the mainstream views surfing and legitimizes it as a serious athletic activity. If Nike owns Hurley, they should just make the H logo a swoosh and stop trying to fool people with a false sense of “authenticity”. Catch the full article here:
