The Tiny Mess is a cookbook about people, places, small kitchens, and the delicious meals that come out of them. It is a whimsical hodgepodge of recipes, culinary adventure, medium-format photography, and, of course, petite and inspiring cooking spaces that prove constraints are nothing but an invitation for creativity. From buses and tree houses to sailboats, off-the-grid mountain cabins, converted rail cars, and the refrigerator of dumpster-diving urban freegans, The Tiny Mess is alive with the story of people, the meals they love, and the anything-but-ordinary places they cook in. The book will have over 30 recipes curated by Maddie Gordon and Mary Gonzalez from the people they’ve met and–in some of the more exotic cases–they work with the cook to make the recipes more accessible to the home cook. Throughout the book there will also be one-off photos from inspiring tiny kitchens highlighting spacial over-comings and inventive cooking solutions. The photos are all taken by Trevor Gordon and are almost entirely shot on medium format film, with some 35mm and the odd digital. Maddie and Trevor live on 36′ sailboat in Santa Barbara and often frequent the Channel Islands. Catching fresh fish for meals when away from the dock is a daily routine. Mary Gonzalez cooks in her 30′ trailer, tends to her vibrant vegetable and herb garden and comes up with delicious vegan meals. Support this rad, unique book project here on Kickstarter:
