Exhibit 004
Summerland

Scott Soens

“Summerland” features the coastal musings of Maine-based artist, Ty Williams and Santa Barbara native photographer, Will Adler. Although executed in different mediums, both artists have a cult following in the surf world and their work speaks the same visual language that is often quirky, sublime, and saturated in coastal culture. This exhibit will be on view from 07/01/23 — 08/06/23 at the Indoek gallery in Ventura, California.

Ty Williams is a multidisciplinary artist from Maine. His work is influenced by his time surfing its coastline, mixed with surf trips to tropical locations and his early childhood in the Caribbean.

Ty has collaborated with like-minded people and iconic brands such as Patagonia, many restaurant and hotel projects like Ace Hotel, and countless private commissions. His broad range of commercial work can be seen everywhere from murals, to t-shirt graphics, textile patterns, album art, to product and packaging designs for food & beverage products.

Ty’s art has been exhibited nationally as well as in Japan, Australia, and Indonesia. His works are focused on the sea and the coastline – pulling imagery from old Jacques Cousteau films, advertisements from the 60’s, children’s books, and palettes that nod to the ocean.

Akin to his experience of surfing, drawing and painting is often meditative – a time to focus and move slowly through the experience of building your own world.

Will Adler's art on view Scott Soens

Will Adler is a west coast photographer known for his distinctive take on the surf world. Adler’s laid back, light infused images convey the spirit and atmosphere of place as much as the action of the sport. He also brings this approach into other areas of photography outside of the surf world. Will has an objective eye, for capturing the often overlooked and mundane details of our man-made and natural environments. Will has exhibited his work in galleries across the US and Europe, and has shot commercial and editorial projects around the globe. He currently lives in Santa Barbara, California.

For the 2023 Summerland exhibit at Indoek Gallery, Will is showing a set of seagull portraits made at various beaches in California. And two photos from a smaller series of tandem surfers in Hawaii.
